batiste – a very fine, light woven fabric
Batiste (French) is the name given to a very fine-threaded, lightly woven, light fabric that can be woven mainly from cotton or linen, but also partly from chemical fibres, silk or viscose. Batiste is made from threads finer than 80 Nm in plain weave. The first batiste fabrics were already being made in the 13th century. Batiste is ideal for warm temperatures, as the fabric is particularly light and breathable. The smooth surface of the fabric has a cooling effect.
